about

I made this EP because I found myself writing some folk-inspired stuff, and that's not usually the kind of music I write so the songs were outcasts. Instead of trying to fit them in with others, I put them together on their own collection. You get three happy songs, three sad songs. It's balanced!

That part makes sense. What doesn't make sense is why I decided at 4am on a Monday to release this the following Friday, especially since these hadn't been recorded in any polished way yet. All things considered, I think it turned out pretty good for being done completely in four days, especially considering "Getaway (I Don't Care)" was written late Tuesday night. Because of the time constraint I put on myself for virtually no reason, this sounds a little rough around the edges at times. But you know what? I like that, it makes it sound human and homemade, which it is.

Nothing on here is straight "folk" per se, but influenced by other artists' versions of folk. John Prine influenced a couple of these, Townes Van Zandt, Jason Isbell, Bruce Springsteen (his first two albums specifically), and Bob Dylan all influenced the others.
